After becoming one of the hallmarks of Halloween over five decades, from the late 1930s to the late 1980s, the Ben Cooper, Inc. has established a dedicated community of fans and diehard collectors—many of whom still fondly remember the company’s silk-screened costumes and plastic masks. Sadly, the company fell into quiet obscurity after being acquired by Rubie’s Costume Co. as the result of some unfortunate financial troubles during the 90s.
Not much has been heard or seen from the brand since then…until now. After an increasing flurry of activity across Instagram and Facebook, it’s been revealed that the Ben Cooper brand is being resurrected by none other than the family itself! Leading the charge are Ira Cooper (son of co-founder Nathan Cooper) and his daughter Estelle Cooper who, alongside artist Don Picton, have their sights set on reestablishing the Ben Cooper legacy and reminding everyone why they were “America’s favorite Halloween costumes.”
No official word on what this brand resurrection means in terms of those classic costumes, but a recent post on Facebook announcing a pin collaboration with Creepy Co. seems to indicate that the new Ben Cooper is looking to go beyond its roots.
