One of the many exciting toy-related announcements coming out of SDCC this year, Mattel revealed that it has partnered with WWE to release a new line of “vintage-styled, feature-packed WWE Retro action figures”. Clearly a throwback to the 90s era series of WWF Hasbro figures, these new toys will be available exclusively at Walmart starting Spring 2017 and features a mix of both “old school” (Undertaker, Ultimate Warrior) and “new school” (John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens) Superstars.
While it looks like Mattel is bringing a colorful pop and polish to the retro aesthetic, these new figures look pretty freaking spot-on to their Hasbro counterparts. I guess time, and profit margins, will tell whether or not Mattel will continue to expand this series, but it sure would be great to see them tackle even more classic wrestlers. I think the world deserves another Adam Bomb figure. Amiright?!
