When you stop and think about it, there aren’t really a lot of TV specials dedicated to Thanksgiving. I mean…they exist, sure, but how many do you get excited about like you do Christmas specials (A Charlie Brown Christmas, How the Grinch Stole Christmas)? Hopefully that’s about to change thanks to Turkey Hollow, a collaborative effort between The Jim Henson Company and Lifetime.
Based on an unproduced screenplay co-written by Jim Henson and Jerry Juhl in 1968, Turkey Hollow finds a family on the hunt for “a Bigfoot-like creature called the Howling Hoodoo during a visit to the house of their kooky aunt (Mary Steenburgen).” While doing so they stumble across a whole litter of monsters living in the woods.
“Turkey Hollow is an unproduced gem from our Company’s archives. I have fond memories from my childhood of my father planning and developing this production. He was delighted by the idea of magical creatures living in the woods and was excited to portray them in a more realistic way than his other well-known puppet characters,” said Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company and daughter of Jim Henson.
Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow premieres November 21 at 8/7c.
