Yes…I know. Normally, I would cringe at the thought of writing anything winter-related before Halloween has even begun but if anyone deserves an exception it’s Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat). And while I’d much rather be writing about a trailer for Dougherty’s long awaited Trick ‘r Treat 2, I have to admit that his take on Christmas’ resident bogeyman, KRAMPUS, has already got me humming “deck the halls with parts of charlie.”
If you’re not familiar with Krampus folklore, he’s basically the “anti-Santa Claus” who punishes misbehaving children…and when I say “punish” I mean beating them with a birch branch, drowning them, eating them, or simply just dragging them to Hell. Sounds fun, right?
When his dysfunctional family clashes over the holidays, young Max (Emjay Anthony) is disillusioned and turns his back on Christmas. Little does he know, this lack of festive spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus: a demonic force of ancient evil intent on punishing non-believers.
