In an interview with Collider, released last week, filmmaker and producer Adi Shankar—perhaps best known for his super violent fan films like The Punisher: Dirty Laundry and Power Rangers—announced that he is working with Fred Seibert (Frederator Studios) on a Castlevania animated mini-series. Specifically, the project is a “dark, satirical [and] super violent” take on Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, a prequel to the original game which stars Trevor Belmont alongside of a trip of vampire hunters (Sypha Belnades, Grant Danasty, Alucard) trying to put an end to Dracula.
Shankar insists the mini-series “will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head,” citing Akira, Ghost in [the] Shell, Ninja Scroll and Young Justice among his influences. No other details, including an anticipated release date, have been shared at this time.
