Does anyone remember that live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television series from the late 90s… Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation? It looked a little something like this:
Notice anything weird… maybe something missing (besides good taste and decent production values)? There’s absolutely no sign of Shredder, Krang, Baxter Stockman or my two favorite rude dudes with bad attitudes: BEBOP & ROCKSTEADY!
Now, I can’t speak to why Saban decided to scrap the Turtles’ familiar rogues gallery (granted, Shredder was in Episode 1) but thanks to director Scotty Eugene Fields and Blood Brothers FX we might just get to see what those villains would’ve actually looked like in their upcoming fan film—aptly named Ninja Turtles: Blood Brothers.
While production seems to be going slowly on the project—as Fields attests “making ninja turtle fan films doesn’t pay the bills”—it’s hard to argue with the results shown in this teaser trailer. Evoking the high point of Saban’s live action superhero series trend, Blood Brothers also seems to have the hard edge of Mirage’s original comic series… or to quote Cracked.com: “it’s like if GWAR tried to make a children’s film.”
