SKULLS OF THE SHOGUN Animated Series Debuts on Nerdist

The crew over at 17-Bit Studios must be celebrating pretty hard right now. Not only did this month mark the release of their second game, Galak-Z, their first game (Skulls of the Shogun) just premiered on Nerdist.com as an animated series starring John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time)… and it’s pretty freaking funny.

Written and directed by F. Ryan Naumann, the series follows the original premise of the game which sees Japanese General Akamoto “on the verge of becoming Shogun” when he’s murdered by an unknown assassin. Akamoto awakens in the afterlife where he must recruit a ragtag misfit army of skeletal samurai to defeat the “Shogun of the Dead” and unravel the mystery behind his undead imposter. New episodes are scheduled to premiere every Tuesday at 10am PT.

In episode one, we meet our embittered hero, General Akamoto, as he learns a bit more about the afterlife he finds himself stuck in, and tries to recruit some warriors to the cause. Why would anyone want to help such a grumpy lil skull? Well, we hear there’s cake.
