Independently Awesome: Indie Horror Film, THE BARN, Scares Up Funds

I’ve been trying really hard to avoid anything remotely Halloween-related recently. That may seem strange (go figure, right?) but it’s really to prevent an early burnout before the boogey season even begins. That proved difficult, however, when I heard about THE BARN—a new indie film set on Halloween 1989 that comes across as part Night of the Demons, part R-rated Goosebumps adventure—thanks to Jay and Matt’s The Purple Stuff podcast.

According to the films’s IndieGoGo project page, the plot follows two best friends (Sam and Josh) who find themselves trapped in an old abandoned barn along with a “ungodly” trio of evil creatures (Hallowed Jack, Candycorn Scarecrow, The Boogeyman). Naturally, it falls to Sam and Josh to protect their friends and defeat the creatures that lurk within The Barn. “I wanted to give that same joy that I got out of watching films made back in the 80s,” says director Justin M. Seaman, who wrote the original short story when he was 8 years old. “There was just something special about that era of movie making that I think is missing today.”
