‘Reboot’ Gets Rebooted for New Live Action/CGI Hybrid Series

With another franchise anniversary, comes yet another reboot (literally, this time). First came the news that Cartoon Network is bringing back Ben 10 for a brand new series as part of the series tenth anniversary. Now comes the news that Mainframe Entertainment (a subsidiary of Rainmaker Entertainment) is working on ReBoot: The Guardian Code, “a hybrid live-action/CG-animated” reboot of the 90s series—20 years after the original ReBoot first aired on ABC.

Replacing the heroic gamers from the original series (Bob, Dot, Enzo), The Guardian Code will introduce “four teens (Austin, Parker, Grey and Tamra)” as the new Guardians of Mainframe “whose mission is to save the world ‘with the help of VERA, the last surviving cyberbeing from the original Guardian Program.’ More than introducing new characters, though, The Guardian Code will be a “multi-platform experience” that “utilize[s] the very technology inherent in the concept of the show—and prevalent in kids’ everyday lives,” according to Rainmaker president Michael Hefferon.

It’s difficult to think that the new show can match the pioneering spirit of the original series, “television’s first fully computer-generated animation series,” but if Mainframe manages to capture the magic of next-gen online gaming and mobile technology they just might be able to pull it off!

The original show REBOOT was the shiznit. I love the original characters though. I’d rather see Bob, Dot, and Enzo back.

I was catching up on the Reboit series on YouTube recently. I had a few episodes on VHS in the late 90s and remember being wowed by the graphics. Beast Wars was also impressive back in the day.

    • I remember being blown away by Beast Wars as well, but seeing it now makes me laugh. Luckily the show’s plot/writing is still pretty decent.

I also saw Lawnmower Man in the cinema and was in to the CGI at the time. Both Reboot and Beast Wars are scoring 8s on IMDB so I think people have fond memories of that time and are willing to cut them some slack.

    Typo, Reboot not Reboit.
