Fan Art Friday: Joel Carroll’s BATTLE BEASTS

Taking a short break from our TMNT-themed series of Fan Art Friday spotlights, this week’s edition nonetheless still features a group of mutant animals (aliens, rather)… just of a pint-sized variety. Based on Takara Tomy’s BATTLE BEASTS (aka BeastFormers) toy series from the late 80s and early 90s, illustrator Joel Carroll puts his own spin on some of the main characters with these fan art pieces from 2012.

    I love how they down-play Killer Carp’s crotch-fin so it doesn’t look like he has a big webbed boner. He was my favorite as a kid growing up. I never knew that in the Japanese continuity he was the evil leader of the Decepticon-allied Battle Beasts.
