Last week we announced on Facebook that our online trading card series, Closet Monsters, would be returning from the grave this May. In light of that, and to celebrate the series one-year anniversary, we’re hosting a Create Your Own contest where you guys – our fellow monster and trading card lovers – get to design your own Closet Monsters character for the chance to have it included on the site AND produced as an actual, physical trading card!
Our panel of judges from both Strange Kids Club and SCABFARM will choose the 5 best entries to be included on the site and 1 Grand Prize winner will actually get their card printed. For all the details on how to enter, see below.
HOW TO ENTER:
Unleash the creative monster inside yourself! Create the most humorous, gross-out, sickening creature your horrid little minds can think of… we ain’t looking for no pansy pocket monsters, folks. Think of all the classic, disgusting funny cards/stickers you collected as a kid: Ugly Cards, Garbage Pail Kids, Mars Attacks, Grossville High, Awesome All*Stars, Zero Heroes, Trashcan Trolls, Bathroom Buddies… you get the idea. Then follow these steps:
- Step 1. Download the card template
- Step 2. Create your monster to fit the provided template (see examples)
- Step 3. Write a 2-3 sentence description of your character.
- Step 4. Send your finished monster as a PNG file to strangekidsclub @ gmail.com
IMPORTANT: Be sure to delete the template layer before sending, all we need is your monster – no background.
Entries will be judged on creativity and originality – NOT just artistic ability – so don’t be afraid if you’re not a professional illustrator.
PRIZES:
GRAND PRIZE (1)
One GRAND PRIZE WINNER will get their card printed as an actual trading card and have it posted on the Closet Monsters Tumblr site in addition to receiving a vintage BOGLIN hand puppet, a Circle Jerk Stickers pack and copies of the final card.
5 BEST ENTRIES (2)
The 5 best entries will have their monsters featured on the Closet Monsters Tumblr site along with their names, links and bio information.
RULES:
- Submissions must be sent to strangekidsclub @ gmail.com
- The character must be original and created specifically for this contest. No previously created artwork will be accepted.
- Submissions can be created in any medium: hand-drawn, digital, sculpture, photography, mixed media… yes, even food.
- Entries will be judged based on creativity and originality.
- Your submission MUST include a name for your new monster.
- Multiple entries are allowed provided they are completely difference characters. Limit three (3) per contestant.
CONTEST ENDS 5/31/2014
Deadline for entries is Saturday, May 31st, 2014 at 10:59pm CST. All submissions will be judged by the SKC and SCABFARM team members. No regional restrictions, contest open to anyone. Winners will be announced on Monday, June 2nd, 2014.
