This week we received a special package from across the ocean, over a few hills and somewhere far in the future. Called P.U.N.K.S.™ (Powerful Useful Nasty Kommando Scums), this independent toy line from France is – according to the Laserpunk Toys website – a tribute to the classic M.A.S.K. action figures by Kenner in the mid 80s. In fact, P.U.N.K.S. are designed to be the same scale as the M.A.S.K. line (approx. 3″ tall) so that hardcore fans can play with them interchangeably.
According to the box, this trio of “Kommando Scum” are:
Three aggresive, dumb and twisted kids [who] haunt the dirty alleys of this town, drinking booze and trashing this area… [until] one day a mysterious man came to grant them with strange weapons and funky power helmets. He said to them ‘thou shall rule the streets!’ And so, they became the powerful, crazy and unleashed doomtroopers known as… P.U.N.K.S.
It’s a balls-out concept that’s further explained in Laserpunk’s STUPID ORIGINS mini-comic which outlines exactly what kind of grossly deviant punks these guys are and how they were granted such amazing gear… think of them as Beavis and Butt-head (+1) with death cannons and laser-shooting helmets.
Featuring a pretty sweet attentional to detail, each of the three resin figures (Wave 1) from the P.U.N.K.S. line are also hand-crafted (cast and painted) with 5 points of articulation, removable “Pogo Power” helmets and clip-on weaponry (Slam Jam Triple Boomstick).
