HELLRAISER: ORIGINS Concept Trailer is Bloody Awesome

It may just be a two minutes long, but this concept trailer for what could have been Hellraiser: Origins is pretty freaking remarkable – both in its artistic vision and it’s treatment of Pinhead and and his cenobite brethren. This is the sort of Hellraiser film that we deserve – rather than the vapid hershey squirt of cinematic celluloid that was Hellraiser: Revelations – and while I’m excited about Clive Barker’s recent announcement that he’s penning the imminent Hellraiser remake I’d have to be honest in saying that I he hasn’t done anything notable since Candyman whereas Origins feels right.

The concept trailer was produced on a budget of basically nothing, which excuses the CGI effects (still done fairly well), and remains genuinely impressive. Concept artist Paul Gerrard served as Production Designer for the trailer, envisioning Pinhead’s new look among other things, while Mike Le Han directed. I’ve include the trailer and a few images below, but to get a glimpse at Gerrard and Han’s entire vision, definitely check out the Hellraiser: Origins site.

From Paul Gerrard (Wrath Of The Titans, Battle LA, TMNT) and Mike Le Han (Mrs Peppercorn’s Magical Reading Room) comes a re-imagining of the Hellraiser world. A teaser was produced to accompany a pitch document which has many more conceptual designs that revision Hellraiser. Paul designed the new look for Pinhead and was production designer on the shoot and Le Han pulled in all of his film resources and directed the teaser on the new Alex 4:3 camera with anamorphic lenses.

Not a big fan on the change to pinheads head lol but the movie looks great.

    • Yeah, Pinhead and the rest of the cenobites are definitely more artsy – would take some getting used to for sure – but I’d be interested to see where they would’ve taken it all.

k so i have mixed feelings about this.
    1. this looks beautiful.. i mean..wow
    2. i don’t like the new version of pinhead. make it a different character that doesn’t break the lore of the original.
    3. only Doug Bradley can play pinhead. Sorry. i’m so rarely a stickler for that but.. it’s fucking pinhead. that would be like someone else playing freddie..not gonna work for me. But, like i said. make it a different character and i’m all in.

    • I can see where Pinhead might be a sticking point. Given the “god-like” art style I could totally see this being maybe a prequel of sorts… perhaps before Pinhead even existed?

This was really disappointing after all the raves it’s been getting online. Good thing Clive Barker and Doug Bradley are making the new Hellraiser now, with practical special effects.
