While the Garbage Pail Kids are known to most primarily as trading cards, the 80s actually saw a plethora of GPK-related products released including a series of (now quite rare) mini figures. These figure packs (sold as Cheap Toys) came with one GPK figure, a plastic “garbage” bag, a checklist and candy. Don’t let the name fool you, though, today those same figures alone can cost you upwards of $100… each! That said, you can imagine how badly some fans, like myself, would like to see these figures re-released. And you know what? Sometimes dreams do come true.
Oddly enough, this post was originally in support of a petition to Topps I ran across over the weekend but as of yesterday shit got real. That’s right, according the GEEPEEKAY Topps is actually planning to re-release the Cheap Toy figures as Garbage Pail Kids “MiniKins” this October. There will be 26 different mini-figures in all with Single Blind Packs containing 2 mystery figures + 2 stickers and Jumbo Blind Packs containing 3 mystery figures, 1 visible figure and 4 stickers. We can also expect special “chase” versions of each figure in 4 neon colors.
