Back in December, the Swedish duo known collectively as HannesJohannes (Hannes Elltorp and Johannes Helgelin) released this fan made slice of animated music video awesomeness as a tribute to one of their favorite bands, Passion Pit. While I’m not too familiar with either artist or the band, what struck me most about the video is how much it reminds me of MTV’s glory days… you know, back when it was more about the music and helping indie musicians break out on the scene.
RANT ALERT!
Yes, there was a time when MTV actually supported stuff other than rap and Justin Bieber albums. They even had cool programs like Liquid Television, Daria, Downtown, Aeon Flux, MTV’s Oddities, Celebrity Deathmatch and more balanced against some of the best jams a young strange kid could ask for growing up. I think that’s what I love most about this particular video- it’s rough, it’s strange, and it dips into the realm of subculture where not everyone is pretty or has that Hollywood polish. It’s the kind of video you’d find tucked away until the witching hour on a Saturday night. If you’ll look closely you’ll even see a creature that resembles me around the :30 mark (there’s no relation between the video and SKC), that’s how freaking cool it is!
