Check out Elvira Movie Macabre’s Christmas Claymation Intro

So you thought Christmas was over simply because your calender says so? In the words of one, Arthur Herbert Fonzarelli: “Fogetaboutit!” I just couldn’t resist sharing this awesome, animated intro for Elvira’s Movie Macabre wherein the Mistress of the Dark introduces us to the “horror-days” the only way she knows how- with an ax to Santa Claus’ face. In what seems like a rite of passage for modern holiday specials, Movie Macabre riffs on Rankin/Bass’ classic Rudolph (with a nod to Charlie Brown and A Nightmare Before Christmas for good measure) and features some great claymation work.

Of course, Elvira herself is at her very scary (sexy) best in an outfit tailor made for the Queen of Scream as she presents Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Reportedly, this short intro was produced by the Chiodo Bros. the same studio responsible for such special effects as those found in Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, and Tim Burton’s Vincent. Very cool.

Dang, looks like it was a fun episode. Still don’t get this in our area. 🙁

    • Unfortunately neither do I, though I believe there are full episodes available online (in parts). Perhaps they’ll release a SE 1 DVD sometime soon so I can get my Elvira fix on!
