TROLLHUNTERS Embark this December on Netflix [Trailer]

It would seem that Dreamworks has trolls on the brains lately with not one, but TWO productions on the horizon before the end of 2016. I, for one, sense a theme for next year’s Halloween costumes.

While TROLLS veers more towards a cuddly-cute comedy, TROLLHUNTERS—slated for release on Netflix in December—is aimed at those seeking more of an action-oriented take on the mythical cave-dwelling creatures. Based on a book co-written by Guillermo del Toro and Daniel Krau, the series centers on 15-year-old Jim (Anton Yelchin) and “a group of friends who discover a fantastical new world wrapped beneath their home town and who will face a battle between good and bad trolls.” Granted, it’s not the most novel concept for an animated series, but the promise of seeing del Toro’s typically dark themes filtered through the lens of a children’s cartoon series is enticing. Kelsey Grammer and Ron Perlman (naturally) also lend their voices as a good troll and a bad troll, respectively.

To coincide with this past weekend’s New York Comic Con, Netflix released the first official trailer for the series which can be seen below.
