Three New Shirts PLUS… ‘Something Strange’

Just because we’ve been quiet doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy and with pop culture nostalgia running rampant these days (I’m literally sipping on some Ecto Cooler as I type this sentence—ECTO COOLER!!!) it should come as no surprise that we’re feeling a bit inspired. Say what you will about remakes/reboots/whatever, at the very least they offer us another excuse to reflect back on the things we love. Things like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Now, there’s multiple flavors of the mutagen-spawned heroes these days (Mirage, Image, IDW, Nickelodeon, Michael Bay), but one of the all-time best incarnations has to be Playmates’ original line of action figures. The imagination behind almost every creature design was absolutely amazing and while well known favorites from the TV series like Bebop & Rocksteady and Krang were represented, it’s the more obscure “one-off” characters that always captivated my attention—especially the bugs.

This mini-release finds us paying tribute to just a few of those insidious instectoids (sadly, Brick Bradley the Bugman is not one of them) like Scumbag, the pest control professional turned professional pest; Antrax, the four-armed arthropod with an axe to grind (literally!); and Stockman-Fly, the mad scientist turned monster. In addition to bringing these characters back to life, we thought it’d be fun to include subtle movie references in each design. For instance, Scumbug standing on the skulls was a nod to The Terminator (okay, T2: Judgement Day) because…well, he’s an exterminator. Get it? Eh…? Of course you do, you’re clever.

I should also mention that in addition to all three NEW designs, we’ve also resurrected our Something Strange shirt in an eye-popping purple variant. If you missed out on the first run, or just prefer updating your SKC shirt collection, this is definitely one to check out!

All four shirts are currently available now on our online shop.
