Motel Hell

Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases this week.

The Blacklist: Season 1 – This was my favorite new show of the past year. Spader is awesome as Red, a disgraced intelligence agent who is now one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives. Red mysteriously turns himself in to the FBI and offers to help catch some of the world’s most elusive criminals but he’ll only speak to rookie agent, Liz Keene. Just a great show. Check it out if you haven’t already.

Rage (2014) – I’ve never heard of this movie before, but it’s got a great B list cast with Nic Cage, Danny Glover, Peter Stormare and Rachel Nichols. Sort of a version of Taken where Nic Cage has a shady, violent past that he’s “put behind him” but it comes back to get him when his daughter is taken and he has to round up his old crew to get her back. Sounds like a potentially great B movie revenge flick.

Turtle Power: Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – A documentary about the history of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This sounds like it could be good. The reviews are good. We’ll see.

Filth (2013) – I love James McAvoy and I’ll watch him in almost anything. This looks like his version of Bad Lieutenant, which I hated, but I’d still give this a shot.

Motel Hell (1980) – Shout! Factory continues their awesome cult horror/sci-fi releases with this cult gem from 1980, Motel Hell. Creepy farmers, motels where guests disappear and a menu of homemade smoked meats with a “special” ingredient. The trappings are all here for a cheesy 80s horror good time!

Monster Madness: Golden Age of the Horror Film – Part 1 of a documentary featuring interviews of the Golden Age of horror/sci-fi and fantasy starting with the early 1900s going through the Universal era in the 30s and through the Hammer era in the 70s. It looks pretty good. I love that they have the Edison Frankenstein on the cover (in the lower right).
