First Look at the “Next Generation” Dark Crystal

Lessons Learn short film

I don’t know where my head was at last August, but apparently I totally missed out on this fantastic Kickstarter collaboration between Heather Henson and Toby Froud. If those names sound familiar (at least one of them should), it’s because they’re both the offspring of renowned artists Jim Henson and Brian Froud – both of whom collaborated on two of my favorite fantasy films (The Dark Crystal, The Labyrinth).

While this “next generation” Henson/Froud collaboration — a short called LESSONS LEARNED — isn’t directly related to either of those feature films it does share the same sense of wonder, seeing Froudian characters brought to life in a fantastical world. No details on when or how the final short film will be released, but you can bet I’ll be keeping my eyes out for any new details!

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS

Lessons Learned is a live action puppet short film. In the story, the boy is surprised by special treatment on this year’s annual birthday visit with his grandfather. Instead of the regular tea and cake fare, grandfather presents an intriguing gift to the lad. When curiosity gets the best of him, the boy falls into an adventure of other-worldly experiences not intended for him. Where will this journey lead? What lessons will he learn?
