On the Shelves: Home Video releases for May 06, 2014

Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases this week.

Veronica Mars (2014) – The crowd sourced sequel to the popular TV show. I have not seen one episode of this TV show nor I have seen this movie. However, the wife and I do have plans to binge watch the show at some point (maybe this summer) and then check out the movie.

The Art of The Steal (2013) – This looks fairly interesting with an eclectic, cult-y cast. Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon, Jay Baruchel, Terence Stamp and Chris Diamantopoulos. Check out the trailer. Yes, it looks like a bargain basement Ocean’s 11, but I think it looks like it could be fun.

– Contains all the current X-Men movies on DVD; X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X3: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men: First Class (2011). X-Men Quadrilogy Collection – There was a previous X-Men Quadrilogy collection that included X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but it’s probably best if we all pretend that never existed.

Robocop 3 Movie Set – There have been a few iterations of the Robocop collection on DVD and Blu-Ray, but they’ve all been too expensive. Robocop 1 is great, but 2 and 3, while entertaining, are not great. For example, if I wanted the trilogy on Blu-Ray I’d have to pay $30+ FOR EACH MOVIE. Even on DVD you’d be paying $25+ for each movie. You’re better off buying the movies piecemeal but I like my nice franchise collections.

Bachelor Party/Porky’s/Revenge Of The Nerds/Weekend At Bernie’s Collection – This is a great collection of 80s comedies. I’m such a big fan of multi-movie collections like this, although I prefer collections of franchises, this is really a good grouping of great 80s comedies. Four movies for less than $20. You can’t lose here.
