Independently Awesome: Dan of the Dead – Stop Motion Zombie Film

Dan of the Dead - Stop Motion Zombie Film

A recent stroll through Kickstarter yesterday revealed several new projects I’m excited about, but none more than Dan of the Dead, a stop motion comedy/horror short with one of the gnarliest zombie puppets I’ve seen since It Came from the West!.

Originally titled 28 Whiskeys Later when creator Pete Ellis’ first began the project in 2011, the plot of Dan of the Dead is sorta reminiscent of Shaun of the Dead – a guy with girlfriend troubles and alcohol addiction has to survive the zombie apocalypse – but seems solid enough to stand on its own. Either way it sounds like a fun romp (yes, I said “romp”) through the “Zombie Apackofcrips.”

Dan, a recovering alcoholic, and his wife Dawn, are celebrating their first anniversary when Dawn is savagely attacked in their home and is turned into a zombie!!! Dan seeks solace in his old friend… whisky!!! Being chased out of his house by the infested creatures, he finds shelter in the nearest public toilets. Confronted by a brain thirsty zombie, he has to think on his feet and try his best to kill the zombie in the drunken state he has got himself into.
