Eyes Open Wide: FilmBilder – Love & Theft

What is UP Clubhouse?! As always I want to welcome you back to your bi-weekly, non-refundable installment of Eyes Open Wide. Are you ready? Because it is time to fight for trippy, animated justice!

In a world of cartoon mediocrity, a few companies continue to help artists push the boundaries of regular animation. One of these companies is FilmBilder. Leaving regular cartoons gasping for air under the broken rubble of the now dystopian world of animation, FilmBilder moves forwards never looking back, screaming into the face of conventionalism with one fist in the air they help carry the heavy load that is trippy animation into the murky horizon of our futures.

This particular animation, Love & Theft, is that great combination of an awesome, well-synced soundtrack, trippy shape shifting animation and plenty of What-The-Fucketry! It starts off with no colour and just a central animation shape shifting into a series of different faces and shapes, as the video goes on and colour is added the music changes appropriately with the animation. This is definitely a video that gets better as it goes on as it is a little slow to start and most ‘dyed in the wool’ animation fans may want to give up but don’t, it gets awesome!
