On the Shelves: DVD Releases for Feb 19, 2013

Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases for this week.

Argo – This movie is excellent. From the story to the acting, you will thoroughly enjoy it if you haven’t seen it. It is excellent and deserving of the few Oscars it’s nominated for. The movie should have given Ben a Best Directing nod, but…WHATEVER.

Irreconcilable Differences – Adorably sad movie starring Ryan O’Neal, Shelley Long and Drew Barrymore. This was probably the first thing I saw Drew Barrymore in after ET. Firestarter came out the same year but I wasn’t allowed to see that until years later. Barrymore stars as a kid whose Hollywood writer/director parents drift apart and begin treating each other, and Barrymore, so poorly that she hires a lawyer and tries to get them divorced on her own. It’s a wonderful little movie that is cute and funny but also very sad.

Sinister – This movie looks pretty creepy. The poster alone is pretty horrifically bad ass. Plus it stars Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’onofrio and Fred Dalton Thompson (I thought he retired!).

The Package – An awesomely cheesy action movie starring Dolph Lundgren and Stone Cold Steve Austin? Where do I sign up? Oh, right here, where it says, The Package.

Lake Placid: The Final Chapter – I can’t believe that there have been four Lake Placid movies. FOUR. I liked the first one, but damn, three sequels?  Really?  I love that they call this “The Final Chapter”.  Let’s not be naive, if this makes a profit, there’ll be another one.  And it’ll probably be called Lake Placid: The New Beginning.

Street Sharks – The Complete 40 Episode Series – The awesomely 90s mutant sharks cartoon is FINALLY on DVD. I’m going to do my best not to mention that I’m still waiting for Teen Wolf….wait, crap.

Repligator – Look at that cover. I’m not sure what I can say that will add to that.

I’ve never seen “Irreconcilable Differences” all the way through, but I do recall Sharon Stone appearing in it as one of the women her dad is seeing…

Street Sharks is kind of after my time, but I still think they look cool! :)

Street Sharks definitely captured some of the old school TMNT vibe without being as lame as Battletoads of Biker Mice from Mars – looking forward to seeing if it still holds up! :D

Thanks for posting this week’s releases, Paxton. I’m looking for a few good titles to add to my rental queue as soon as I get home from my shift at DISH tonight. I rent all of my movies through the DISH Blockbuster @Home disk by mail service; they offer over 100,000 blu ray/dvd movies, TV shows, and video games, and I keep my queue full, so I always have something new on the way. Argo sounds good, and I’ve wanted to see Sinister since it came out, so both of those are going to be added to the top of my queue.
