Fan Art Friday: Epic Video Game Movie Posters by Ian Wilding

Movies based on actual video games movies are one of Hollywood’s biggest mysteries. While a few decent examples have eked out from under the big screen stigma (Like a Dragon, Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat), far more have suffered an awkward and unexplainable fate (Super Mario Bros., Double Dragon, Max Payne, Doom). Luckily, as we patiently await a proper Super Metriod or Gears of War feature film, we can at least dream about what the posters for those films might look like thanks to digital artist Ian Wilding.

The one thing that stood out in my mind is how much “Double Dragon” was an homage to “The Warriors”…go back and watch, you can see how much they’ve copied the tribes from it.

Still, that “Shadow of the Colossus” poster is wonderful, hopefully the people making the film will take note and ask the artist to make the official one. :)

I agree, it’s a beautiful poster! I’m really looking forward to the Shadow of the Colossus film. I think it has the potential to be the first movie based on a video game that’s actually good and not just “decent.”
