Fan Made ‘Street Fighter X Mega Man’ PC Game gets Green Light from Capcom!

The chances are if you grew up and owned a NES you’ve played one of the original Mega Man games. Those games are what a lot of gamers consider one of the best platformers in existence and with Mega Man’s 25th Anniversary approaching fairly quickly you might be asking what we have to look forward to, right? Simple… a free game!

However, this isn’t just any free Mega Man game. Not only is it Mega Man’s anniversary, but it’s the anniversary of Street Fighter as well. Since we haven’t seen Mega Man in a standalone game in some time, Capcom is taking a bit of a chance and bringing him back in crossover game with Street Fighter, known as Street Fighter X Mega Man!

Here’s Capcom’s official statement on the game directly from their blog:

Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation. This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.

—Christian Svensson, SVP of Consumer Software at Capcom USA

Showing a full connection between Capcom and their fans, this game was created and developed by Singapore native and superfan Seow Zong Hui (also known as Sonic) with full direction and support from Capcom. Seeing Capcom put their support behind a fan made game is really humbling and it’s something that I personally would like to see other developers and publishers do in the future. It’s just nice to see that sometimes even if you’re just fan with a random idea, that idea can turn into something amazing.

The game is set for release on December 17th and will be a PC exclusive download via Capcom-Unity. There is no word as of yet if this game will ever see the light of a console port or not, but I am excited to get my hands on this game all the same and see what the final product will be like. If you’re as excited as I am or just a little curious, here’s the trailer for the game so you can get an idea of what you can expect!
