On the Shelves: DVD Releases for Sep 18, 2012

Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases this week.

Indy Jones on Blu-Ray
Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures – The first three Indiana Jones movies on Blu-Ray!  Plus, you get the fourth one for free (there was a fourth one?).  I’m happy with my DVDs of these movies, so I don’t really plan on upgrading, but I may try to get them from Netflix just to see how the picture looks.  I really should get out to see Raiders in the theater while it’s still there.

Cabin in the Woods
Cabin in the Woods – I am in sloppy love with this movie. Written by Joss Whedon and directed by Drew Goddard.  Back in May, I sat in with a few of the Atomic Geeks to talk about how awesome this movie is. If you haven’t seen it, stop everything you are doing and watch it. It’s amazing. And go in as spoiler free as possible.

Halloween 2 Halloween III
Halloween II and Halloween III: Season of the Witch – I only bring these up because we are literally like two weeks away from October. Which is crazy.  The first two Halloween sequels on Blu-Ray if you want them.

The Revenant – David Anders (Heroes) gets turned into some weird vampire that seems more like a zombie than a vampire. So he becomes a super hero. Sounds weird, but the trailer looks funny.

Ed Wood
Ed Wood – This is a wonderful little Tim Burton movie starring Johnny Depp and Martin Landau. Landau plays Bela Lugosi and essentially steals the movie. I’m not sure I really think a Blu-Ray upgrade for this movie is necessary, but it’s a great little movie.

the Victim
The Victim – Written, directed and starring Michael Biehn, who is awesome. Also starring Danielle Harris who was in the original Halloween 4 as well as both of Rob Zombie’s Halloween remakes.  While it doesn’t sound groundbreaking or all that original, it does sound a bit interesting. See the trailer here.

Bait 3D
Bait 3D – I love shark attack movies. I even did an article on my blog listing 12 completely awesome movie posters featuring sharks.  This movie sounds terrible, but I’ll probably give it a watch.

  • I’ll probably be picking up the Indiana set. I have the first 3 on VHS, Laser Disc and DVD but I haven’t bought the 4th for obvious reasons. It’d be nice to have a set of the four.

I’ve been waiting to see Cabin and have avoided most news about it. I hope it’s as groovy as you say it is!

  • Retail for Cabin in the Woods is $30 for DVD / $35 for Blu Ray. Amazon has it for $15 DVD / $20 Blu Ray.

  • I just wish the fourth Indiana Jones had gone with some of the earlier ideas pitched instead of getting all “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” 🙁

DEFINITELY excited about Cabin in the Woods, though. And thanks for the tip Rube!

Cabin in the Woods (though I have not seen it yet) is on my list to get. I really only like two of the Indy movies. At that price point, I’ll hold off on upgrading for now. If there’s a good Black Friday sale or something, I can see picking it up.

    • I like all 3 of the original Indy Jones movies. Temple of Doom the least, but I still enjoy it somewhat. The less said about Kingdom of My Hairy Bean Bag, the better.
