On the Shelves: DVD Releases for Sep 04, 2012

Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases this week.

Piranha 3DD – I mentioned this movie back in May as it apparently streamed On-Demand the same day it was released in theaters.  I enjoyed the first one for what it was, which was schlocky, fun and gory. This also looks fairly entertaining.  I’m definitely giving it a shot.  Plus, you know, boobies.

Mad Monster Party – The Rankin-Bass stop motion Halloween classic is finally on Blu-Ray.  I love this movie.  If you haven’t seen it, you really need to check it out.  It’s possible we may cover this on a future Halloween episode of Nerd Lunch.

Re-Animator – Finally on Blu-Ray. I love this 80s horror movie. A true schlock classic.  I plan on reading the original Lovecraft story this was based on a for a future AWESOME-tober-fest.

Classic Monsters Spotlight Collection – Contains The Mummy, The Wolf Man, The Invisible Man and Phantom of the Opera.  While I wait for the original Universal Monster movies to hit Blu-Ray on October 2, Universal releases this collection of better than average monster movies.  The Wolf Man is one of my favorites, but Karloff as The Mummy is also amazing.  You really can’t go wrong with this collection.  This is a great deal if you don’t care about Blu-Ray.

Screaming in High Heels – This looks like a great documentary on 80s scream queens. Includes interviews with Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens and Michelle Bauer.  If you were a fan of direct to video horror on VHS back in the 80s then this documentary is probably for you.  Plus, again, boobies.

Person of Interest: Season 1 – I missed the boat on this one even though I had every intention of watching it. Now that it’s on DVD, I’m going to try to give it a chance, however, I’m sort of in the middle of watching Breaking Bad Season 2 and Deadwood Season 1 so it may have to wait a bit.
