On the Shelves: DVD Releases for July 17, 2012
Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases for this week. Lots of good stuff this week.

Lockout – I love Guy Pearce, I want to see him in more movies like this. Pearce plays a wrongly accused man offered his freedom if he can bust into a high security prison IN SPACE and rescue the President’s daughter who has become trapped inside. What’s not to love about that premise?

High Noon: 60th Anniversary Edition – I’m a western guy, so I have to mention this classic starring Gary Cooper and the amazing Grace Kelly. Check out this real time western on Blu-Ray in all of its awesome glory.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers – The classic horror movie from 1956 hits Blu-Ray today.

Alphas: Season 1 – I hear nothing but great things about this TV series. It sounds like a British Heroes, but more awesome. MUCH more awesome. I mean, it guest stars people like Lindsay Wagner, Brent Spiner and Summer Glau. I will definitely be checking this one out.

Hard to Kill – Next to Under Siege, this is, in my opinion, Seagal’s best movie and my favorite to watch over and over again.

Next of Kin – I can’t for any reason explain to you why, but I like this movie. Just the fact that it’s a modern-ish movie where the main character’s weapon of choice is a f**king bow and arrow. That’s just badass. Plus look at the cast; Patrick Swayze, Adam Baldwin, Ben Stiller, Liam Neeson and Helen Hunt. Amazing.

The Three Stooges: The Movie – I like the Three Stooges. I like the idea of this movie. There are some things I liked in the trailer, but there are also some things I hated. I like that they aren’t doing a “behind the scenes” movie, they are doing an actual Three Stooges movie. I hate that Snooki makes an appearance. I also wish they would have given this movie an actual title like The Three Stooges in Blah, Blah, Blah. Not the terrible, terrible The Three Stooges: The Movie. I’m going to watch it, for better or worse. I’ll let you know which.

Casa de mi Padre – The trailer for this looks like it could be Will Ferrell’s Nacho Libre, as in most people won’t ever remember it but the people that do think it’s hilarious. I think the trailer is funny, but I’m not sure how that holds up over an hour and a half.

IN THIS ISSUE: Strange Kid runs amok in 80s/90s TV series! Jason Edmiston, Matthew Allison, Drew Rausch, David DeGrand, Brent Engstrom...

Lockout looks like an awesome movie but I’ve heard mixed reviews since it came out in theaters. Of course anything Will Ferrell is on my list because the man is a comedic genius. Casa de mi Padre looks like his classic slapstick that he normally reserves for his website funnyordie.com. I haven’t had a chance to see it yet so a Dish co-worker suggested trying Blockbuster @ Home instead of going from kiosk to kiosk looking for it. I thought it was a great idea because I can get movies, TV shows and games delivered to my house or I can stream movies to my Hopper. It’s pretty convenient – I mean no one wants to run around looking for their movies and most of us are too busy to even attempt it. Needless to say I am sold and I’m looking forward to seeing Will’s new movie soon.
