Web Series Wednesdays: ‘Super Power Beat Down’ Provides Fan-tastic Fictional Brawls

Yes, I know. It’s Thursday, not Wednesday, but pretend with me for a moment that we’ve all travelled back in time, almost like we have superpowers! Fun, right? …right?

Moving right along, Super Power Beat Down (SPBD) is a relatively new web series with a simple concept: every month they take two fictional “characters” and pit them against with the victor decided by the viewers (that’s us!). So far, viewers have seen super-powered smackdowns between Darth Vader and Gandalf, Batman and Wolverine and… West-era Batmobile vs Burton-era Batmobile(?).

While the actual series itself seems to be debates between a rotating pool of hosts, so far each debate has been followed up by a “Live Action Battle” which is where the real fun comes in. It’s a little geekier and less funny than Epic Rap Battles of History, but the strange kid factor is in full effect when you see their latest match: Batman vs Wolverine. Add to the mix a little fangirl fun at the end of each episode and the potential entertainment value gets “kicked up a notch.”
