Fan Art Friday: Joey Spiotto’s Geek-tastic Fake Album Covers
Although I had never heard of Joebot (aka Joey Spiotto) before this week I knew from his short bio (i love robots, aliens, and zombies) that he was “one of us.” Beyond that, Spiotto has worked as a concept artist on both The Simpsons Game and Dead Space AND he’s managed to create some of the coolest fake album covers (ever). He’s even gone as far as labeling the vinyl discs and framing them!
The album series, which includes homages to everything from Legend of Zelda to Dr. Horrible, actually started as a one-off Serenity fanart:
A few years ago I got into collecting vinyl records with artwork on the front. I’ve never really had a chance to design an album cover, and when I started thinking about what would be a fun illustration to do for Serenity, I thought since music was such a strong component of the show, that an album would be perfect. I was always a fan of old vinyl art of children’s music so I wanted to incorporate a retro feel.
