Worlds Collide in New ‘Wilco’ Music Video Featuring ‘Popeye’
It would seem that indie band, WILCO has gone all out with their latest music video Dawn on Me from their new record “The Whole Love.” The video was done in collaboration with King Features (owners of classic cartoon properties like Dennis the Menace, Flash Gordon and Popeye) and marks the first time Popeye and crew have been animated in over 30 years!
The crossover also spanned over into print, with a Sunday comic by Frank Caruso and Ned Sontagg PLUS a pretty cool website, WilcoSpinach.com, to boot.
As one of the earliest animated characters, Popeye has become one of the most induring and iconic cartoon charcter of all time and is forever entwined in the evolution of animation. The music video marks the first new Popeye cartoon since Popeye’s Voyage: The Quest for Pappy, the 3-D CGI primetime TV special produced by King Features Syndicate for Popeye’s 75th Anniversary in 2004.
