‘The Code’ Proves Even Monsters Have Manners… Or Not
A seemingly innocent and (unfortunately) fully clothed date night soon turns into a full out movie monster dispute for two lovers as a horde of zombies square off against a weed whacker wielding (say THAT three times fast) psychopath for who gets dibs on the “victims.”
That’s the premise behind THE CODE, a short film originally put together for the Splatterfest Film Festival in Houston where it managed to snag quite a few awards. As a concept, the short is actually pretty funny and even manages to pull off some in-jokes for fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Shaun of the Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Overall I thought these elements could have been played up a bit more for comedic effect, but nonetheless it offers a few laughs. Actually, I’d love to see this kind of film on a larger scale… sorta like Smokin’ Aces, but with monsters and slashers instead of hitmen.
