‘PuppetVision’ Film Needs Help to Go Back in Time and Around the World

Andrew Young is a man with a dream. Some would call it more of a vision I suppose… a PuppetVision to be more specific. For the past 7 years Young has been spreading that vision at his aptly named PuppetVision Blog, a hub for all things laden with puppetry goodness. Its purpose is to “inspire puppeteers to create more content like films and viral videos for the web” and with well over 2,000 (and counting) I’d say it’s doing a pretty good job.

Young is much more than a passive observer, though. He’s also a filmmaker, professional puppeteer, founder of the puppet collective Unraku and is currently working on a globe-spanning documentary on (what else?) puppetry. The film, PuppetVision: The Movie intends to feature more than sixty puppeteers from traditional marionettes to “Monster Makers” who create creatures and SPX for movies and TV, allowing each of them to speak about their methods and motivations.

When this film is completed next year (2012) I’m going to use it as a platform to introduce you to artists that you didn’t know existed and I’m going to show you some incredible performances that are like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

To this point the film has been financed primarily by Young himself. However, now that he’s nearly gotten to the end of it he could use a little help. If you’re a puppet nut like myself and you want to see how you can help, be sure to visit the film’s official IndieGoGo funding page.
