The Top 5: More Favorite Forgotten Cartoon Christmas Specials

After our last Christmas specials countdown I thought maybe stuff was getting a bit too mushy and lovely, so I decided to give into the spirit of the season and let it indulge me… NOT!

Not everything about Christmas is as cuddly and heartwarming as it may seem to be, there’s also a lot of weirdness that has been adapted for this wonderful time. Weirdness that has given us Christmas cartoon specials that may slip through the minds of many but can give us a really heartwarming mindblowness during this joyful time. I know I have missed a lot of them, mostly ‘cuz I can recall where I get them, but these five are the most memorable.

#5 Archie’s Weird Mysteries: The Christmas Phantom

I surprised myself when I found this forgotten cartoon. I had never seen it before but I really enjoyed it once I gave it a little time. This spin-off of the beloved Archie franchise shows us a Riverdale Town plagued by ghouls, aliens and spooky stuff but still with that friendly face Archie and friends is known for. In this particular episode Archie feels that Christmas has become a really materialistic and meaningless period of time, and working in a cursed department store won’t do miracles for his season’s blues… or will it?

#4 Batman The Animated Series: Christmas with the Joker

How people forget about something like this I just don’t understand. I mean, how can you go wrong for a Christmas episode when the Joker escapes from Arkham Asylum using a rocket Christmas tree while singing the funniest Christmas jingle ever! Batman must stop him from killing Commissioner Gordon and stop all of Joker’s other schemes while the Clown Prince of Crime televises everything in his own Christmas special during Christmas Eve. Bites me how people forgets it ‘cuz this is an episode that brightens even the gloomiest vigilante’s heart. …oh, and they mention It’s a Wonderful Life too.

#3 Men in Black, The Series: The Black Christmas Syndrome

The Black Christmas Syndrome is an episode of one of my favorite cartoon series, Men in Black. It tells us the story about how MIB has to help Santa’s alien elves to find “His Jolliness” after he has been kidnapped by the flaming alien Drekk, who is assisted by a bunch of abominable snowmen. Meanwhile J also tries to figure out the perfect Christmas gift for K. References to Charles Dickens’s classic A Christmas Carol are the perfect topping for this kick-ass episode, plus there’s no shortage of action, magic, great one-liners and aliens.

#2 The Real Ghostbusters: Xmas Marks the Spot

Most Christmas specials talk about how a certain character feels that Christmas is ruined for him/her followed by a series of events in which everyone helps that character see what Christmas is really about. But what if the characters really ruined Christmas by wiping it off the map? That is the plot of Xmas Marks the Spot in which The Ghostbusters accidentally go back in time and help Ebenezer Scrooge to get rid of the Christmas ghost and thus making everyone hate Christmas in the present. The team then must fight ghouls and ghosts to get it back before is too late.

I also want to point out that in this episode The Ghostbusters beat DEATH and trap it. How many heroes could say that?

#1 Invader Zim: The Most Horrible X-mas Ever

Okay, try picture this in your head: Two million years in the future a robotic snowman tell potato children the story of how an alien invader uses a mutant Santa suit to enslave the human race while a large headed kid must bring a giant robot to destroy the mutant Santa at the North Pole and engage in a fight of epic proportions. Boring? Then I recommend you to leave this page, burn all amusing stuff in your life and go back to that dead-end desk job as a pencil pusher you love so much.

The Most Horrible X-mas Ever is hands down my favorite Christmas special ever! Period! It has great music, great characters, great jokes, a heartwarming message and people getting beaten for saving humanity. You cannot go wrong with Invader Zim, even less if there is suffering, rocket powered reindeer and childhood traumas in it.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow strange kids near and far!
