Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases for this week.

Cowboys & Aliens
Cowboys & Aliens – I was excited to see this until the giant collective “MEH” after it premiered earlier this year. I still want to see it, but I keep hearing “missed opportunity”. Which is sad, so many good people are involved and the concept is great.  Interesting that this release is an “extended edition” because not one person that I talked to that saw this said that they wished it was longer.

Hangover 2
The Hangover Part II – I was excited for this movie also, but I kept hearing “more of the same”. It’s really tough to follow the first Hangover, but I bet this is still funny.

Transformers Prime
Transformers Prime: Darkness Rising – I believe this is the first story arc in the new Transformers cartoon. I don’t know much about it but it stars Frank Welker and Peter Cullen. That’s pretty awesome.

Capt Power
Capt Power and the Soldiers of the Future: The Complete Series – Wow. I honestly never thought I’d see Capt Power hit DVD. Yeah, maybe in an 80s Cartoon variety pack, but never in a complete series set. And look at that cover. Is that Drew Struzan? Wow.

Skeleton Warriors
Skeleton Warriors: The Complete Series – Here’s another cartoon complete series I never thought I’d see on home video. Skeleton Warriors. And I know that is a Drew Struzan cover.  So, both Captain Power and Skeleton Warriors get complete series DVD releases here in North America (with Struzan covers!!) yet I’m still waiting for The Cartoon Adventures of Teen Wolf?  Which is actually supported by a movie.  And currently has a TV series on MTV?  WTF, Hollywood?!  I WANT THE TEEN WOLF CARTOON ON DVD!!!!  You already released it in Australia, just remaster that set in NTSC format and dump it into Wal-Mart for $15.  That’s all I f**king ask.  DO IT.

MST 3K Vol 22
Mystery Science Theater Volume XXII – More MST3K is a good thing. Actually, any MST3K is a good thing.  This volume contains the movies Time of the Apes, Mighty Jack, The Violent Years and The Brute Man.  It also contains the awesomely named shorts Young Man’s Fancy and Chicken of Tomorrow.

M:I giftset
Mission: Impossible Giftset – This is a nice set. You get all three current M:I movies on Blu-Ray for less than $10 each. That’s not bad. The first Mission: Impossible is pretty good. The second one is completely terrible. The third one is really great. The fourth one, Ghost Protocol, looks great also. So I think this set is mostly filled with win.

Fisher Against the World
Bobby Fisher Against the World – Documentary about the most famous chess player ever, the enigmatic Bobby Fisher. Focuses on his match with the Russian chess master, Boris Spassky and examines the political climate at that point in time (early ’70s).

Skeleton Warriors finally on DVD?!?! YES! And that cover art is amazing!!!

Hangover 2 I thought was ok….nowhere near as bad as critics made it out to be, still pretty funny and all. The thing is though, it’s pretty much the first movie only set in Thailand. It’s one big rehash.

Captain Power + Skeleton Warriors + DREW STRUZAN?! There goes my allowance.

I’m wondering what the heck is up with Universal. The guy in charge said he didn’t like “Cowboys and Aliens” but added he was shocked “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” didn’t do well. It just seems they bet on the wrong horse most of the time. Personally, they should’ve given
“Your Highness” more of a push instead of “Snow White and the Huntsman”…seriously, I would’ve killed for a descent Leezar tee from Hot Topic.

But getting back to “Cowboys and Aliens”, I now cannot tell Paul Dano and Sam Huntington apart. Great.

As for “Hangover 2″, I want to drink Fanta out of a plastic bag.

And is it sad the only thing I remember from “Skeleton Warriors” is the female skeleton figure with the mammary sacks that let you KNOW it’s a female?!
