Some of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases for this week.

Friday 13th Ultimate Collection
Friday the 13th The Ultimate Collection – I’m a huge Friday the 13th fan.  I love Jason Vorhees.  Especially Parts II, IV and VI.  This gives you all of the movies on some nicely mastered DVDs.  Some of the movies can be obtained separately on Blu-Ray, but not collected into one giant affordable set.  I’m not sure how much the majority of these movies would improve on Blu-Ray anyway.

Walking Dead S1
The Walking Dead Season 1 – I saw a few episodes of this, and it was awesome. I mainly didn’t watch because I hadn’t read any of the comic and I wanted to read that first. However, I think I’m going to just go ahead and watch this regardless.  It really does look fantastic.

null
Scream 4 – I really have no burning desire to see this. Three was terrible. Wes Craven is really hit or miss for me.  I mean, did you see his last movie?

The League S2
The League Season 2 – This show is AMAZING and hilarious. I watched the first season on Netflix streaming and I can’t wait to see Season 2.  It’s about a group of friends and the competition surrounding their fantasy football season.  So funny, especially if you compete with your friends in anything like fantasy football.

Weird Al Live
Weird Al Yankovic Live: The Alpocalypse Tour – I actually have the Weird Al videos DVD. Weird Al is awesome and I quickly buy every album he releases. I hear he puts on great live shows, but I have yet to see one.

The New Pee-Wee Show
The Pee-Wee Herman Show on Broadway – I’m totally looking forward to this release. This is a recording of the new Pee-Wee Herman show that Paul Reubens has been performing the last few years. It’s been getting rave reviews and has spawned talk of another Pee-Wee movie. The show is based on the original Pee-Wee show from back in the 80s.

Pee Wee
Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure – Tim Burton’s big break. This is such a quirky and funny movie.  Sort of the beginning of the Pee-Wee phenomenon (for those that never saw the original show air on HBO).  This incarnation of Pee-Wee is what made it to the children’s show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.

Mighty Hercules
The Mighty Hercules – I loved this cartoon when I was a kid. I can’t believe it’s actually coming out on DVD. I mean, we’ll have this obscure Hercules cartoon from the early 60s on DVD but we STILL won’t have the Teen Wolf cartoon from 1986?  WTF?!

Year Without a Santa Claus Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Rankin-Bass Christmas Specials – I’m really happy these Rankin-Bass specials are coming to Blu-Ray. You’ll be able to buy (separately) The Year Without a Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Coming To Town, Frosty the Snowman and Twas the Night Before Christmas.  However, they really should bundle them together. You can’t tell me 2 or 3 of these specials can’t fit on one Blu-Ray disc. I think The Year Without a Santa Claus goes hand-in-hand with Santa Claus is Coming To Town and A Miser Brothers’ Christmas and should be bundled as such.

As you can tell by the decor around the Clubhouse, it’s Halloween season. All month you can expect some awesomely creepy articles as we Countdown to Halloween. Also, check out my blog, Cavalcade of Awesome, as I celebrate the Halloween season (which I call AWESOME-tober-fest) by reviewing books, movies and TV shows about everyone’s favorite vampire, Dracula.

I’m a big Friday the 13th fan too! Another box set huh? I’m glad you posted your favorite flicks in the series. I love 3, 4, 6 the most. That DVD cover is really awful looking though, damn! Looks like they hired some unskilled person to try to duplicate the look of the Peter Bracke “Friday the 13th” book. They should have just used that artwork instead.

Hmmm, I put 2 as my fav, but I meant 3. 3, 4 and 6, just like you, Fiji.

Oh, and that cover, which looks odd, is actually a window showing the included replica Jason hockey mask. The blue trees are art and the mask is real. I forgot to mention that.

Scream 4 is better than Scream 3. In fact, I think Scream 4 was consciously trying to undo the damage that Scream 3 was. (I’ll have a full review up soon.)

You didn’t mention the collectible hockey mask in the set. That’s fun. Not enough for me to re-buy the series on DVD again, but fun. ; )

I agree with Steve, Scream 4′s decent. Miles better than 3,,,,,still has it’s weak moments, but it’s worth checking out. On a side note I finally watched My Soul To Take last weekend…..it’s now
my all time favorite comedy. :D

Haha. Joe, I think that’s exactly how you have to watch it.
