“Welcome to Hoxford” Fan Film Brings Ben Templesmith’s Graphic Novel to Life
A psychotic killer squares off against mythical beasts in one of the best prison horror movies since The Chair.
Directed by Julien Mokrani with a screenplay and creative direction by Samuel Bodin, Welcome to Hoxford is a short film based on Ben Templesmith’s award-winning comic miniseries from IDW starring Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher & Arben Bajraktaraj.
The story follows pretty close to the source material which finds a psychotic prisoner named Raymond Delgado being transferred to Hoxford, a renowned prison/mental institution made famous for its “unusual” but effective methods. It seems Delgado is about to get a first hand experience at just what these methods entail as there’s more than the mentally disturbed stalking the halls of Hoxford.
There’s certainly a Zack Snyder-equse polish to the film that recalls his work on 300 or perhaps more of Robert Rodriguez’s adaptation of Sin City. Either way, the visuals are nothing short of impressive and the creature design by Jean-Christophe Spadaccini is sickeningly awe-inspiring (drawing its inspiration directly from Templesmith’s artwork). This is hands down one of the most awesome fan films I’ve seen in some time!
