The Top 5: Heart Crushing Horror Movie Death Scenes

Well whaddayaknow… Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Although it doesn’t technically qualify as a real “holiday,” I’ll take every excuse I can to “par-tee down.” You may not believe it, but this Strange Kid was a bit of an outcast with the love interests (shocking, I know), so every year I would celebrate by watching some of my favorite horror movies and this year I get to share that tradition with each of you! Segueing some of the obvious choices this year, I was able to nail my picks down to some of the best heart-wrenching scenes of myocardial mayhem that are sure to shower you in sanguine horrorsauce (blood, that is).

#5: Night of the Demons 3 (1997)

While not my favorite Night of the Demons entry, Angela shows that she stills has the right stuff in this quick, pun-filled heart removal. Quick and easy.

#4: Evilspeak (1981)

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this film, but I can’t help be reminded of that creepy guy from The Temple of Doom in this scene: KALI MA, KALI MA, KALI MA!!

#3: From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

This one is so overdone, but nonetheless brilliant. Totally reminds me of those old kung-fu movies.

#2: The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982)

I have to admit that I’ve never actually seen this one, but after this scene I SO want to! Dude doesn’t even have to touch his victim, he just uses his “sparkle fingers” and BAM!- instant heart removal.

#1: Heartstopper (2006)

I’m somewhat torn on this one. I really didn’t like this film, but as it’s name would imply there are some pretty gnarly “heartstoppers” throughout and this one is perhaps the best. Dude tears open his freaking chest! Now that’s down and dirty.

So there you go, the Strange Kid’s Top 5 Heart Removal picks for 2011. A big thanks goes to YouTube user NapsterVeins69 who made it so easy to find and share these gruesome scenes and to artist Dragan Kovacevic for his uncanny ILL-ostration of moi. How about you- what are a few of your favorite heart-crushing film moments?

  • I’d definitely have to include the “Heart Toss” scene in Dr. Giggles. Not only was it disgusting it was pretty darn hilarious as well. Not to mention the giant bucket of hearts we see a few moments later of various sizes and shapes. ECK!
The next clip would have to be from JASON GOES TO HELL where the guy bites into the heart that contains Jason’s “Evil” and goes to town on it. I mean, the blood was so viscous and black! So disturbingly beautiful.
Third in line is the heart ripping scene from Stephen King’s “IT.” The best kind of revenge is best served with tainted clown makeup and giant blood filled balloons. OH, and a traumatic childhood. What else would fuel your ability to rip out the heart of a gigantic alien spider with your bare hands?!
And what about in JEEPERS CREEPERS where The Creeper eats the heart he so swiftly rips from the cop near the stairwell? Moments later we can only hear the haunting sounds of chewing, swallowing and digestion 😉

Too many to name! Love your choices btw. Great stuff!

  • I’m going to have to see #2, as yet it’s another piece of required viewing for “Your Highness”. Damn you, David Gordon Green!

But no “Temple of Doom”? That’s probably one of the films that lead to the PG-13 rating because of that scene.

  • What about in Bride of Reanimator when the Bride pulls her heart out ‘cus Dan only cares about her because its Megan’s heart. which starts the whole tissue rejection thing.

  • Strange Kid

Ah man, haha, you guys are putting my picks to shame!

@Andrew: The Bride of Reanimator was a GREAT scene!!! Can’t believe I missed such an obvious choice! Had to add it to the post, thanks!

@Ladracul: I really considered Temple of Doom, but I ultimately I tried to stick to horror films this time out. Next year, though, anything it game. 😉

@Elliott: Man, those are some awesome picks. I did think about Jason Goes to Hell, but couldn’t find any clips of it anywhere so I had to leave it out. I can’t remember the “heart toss” from Dr. Giggles, but you can bet I’ll be looking for it… been awhile since I’ve seen that one.

I’ll try to look to see if I can find any of your picks and update the post with them, but if you already know of some clips or stills feel free to send on by! 😀

    • Yeah, I too wondered about Temple of Doom, which is all kinds of BAD ASS, but that movie is not your traditional “horror” movie that you so carefully point out in the article title. So good call leaving it off.

      This is a good list.
