On the Shelves: DVD Releases for Jan 25, 2011

Here are a few of the DVD/Blu-Ray releases that will be available this week.

Secretariat – I saw this several years ago when it was called Seabiscuit. So unless Diane Lane gets all kinds of naked, I don’t plan on watching this.

RED – Old-school spies kicking ass. What’s not to love? The cast in this is phenomenal and this movie delivers.  Check out the brutal fight scene between Bruce Willis and Karl Urban.

Saw 3D
Saw 3D: The Final Chapter – The first Saw was interesting back in 2004. After that, the producers were not only beating the proverbial dead horse, they were sodomizing it.

Open Season 3
Open Season 3 – There was an Open Season 2?!

Matlock Season 6
Matlock: Season 6 – Perfect gift for Grandparent’s Day 2011. I mean, look at the cover, Andy Griffith holding a banjo. If that doesn’t scream GRANDPARENTS then I don’t know what does.

She-Ra Complete Series
She-Ra: The Complete Series – This is it. Watch the awesomeness of Bow (and his ‘stache) continually not figure out that She-Ra is Adora.  Oh, and even though Hordak is supposed to be this wicked bad ass, watch She-Ra routinely defeat him with a team consisting of Glimmer, Loo-Key, Madame Razz and Broom.

North and South
North and South: The Complete Series – The not quite historically accurate mini-series about the Civil War. My wife f’n loves this mini. Which means, I’m going to have to watch it at some point.

I Spit on Your Naked Corpse
I Spit on your Naked Corpse – Sometimes the knockoff movies have better titles than the originals. This movie is a knockoff of a remake of an older exploitation horror flick.  I’ve seen the original 1978 film and it’s…graphic…to say the least.

Rover Dangerfield
Rover Dangerfield – “Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a movie featuring a dog that is voiced by Rodney Dangerfield?”  “Yeah, and it would be animated.”  “Yeah, that would be so awesome.” Ask and ye shall receive; the Rodney Dangerfield as a cartoon dog movie is coming out on DVD.

Riff Trax: Order in the Shorts – The MST3K guys skewer a bunch of shorts from the 50s and 60s.  If you aren’t aware of how awesome these are, then why are you reading Strange Kids Club?
