On the Shelves: DVD Releases for Jan 11, 2011

Here’s what’s available to buy as of today.

Social Network
The Social Network – I’m ashamed to say I have not seen this movie yet. I’m a huge Aaron Sorkin fan. His Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip was fantastic despite being canceled after one season yet crap like Two and a Half Men and every reality show EVER get to stay on for like 15 seasons.  WTF?!  Anyway, know that I’ll be getting and watching this ASAP.

Pirhana 3D
Pirhana 3D – This is sad. I haven’t seen this one either. What the hell have I been doing lately?

Dances With Wolves
Dances With Wolves 20th Anniversary Edition – Kevin Costner’s 3 hour Oscar winning epic is finally … Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Alpha and Omega
Alpha and Omega – An animated movie not made by Disney/Pixar, DC or Marvel. Your kids will probably love it.

Hot in Cleveland
Hot in Cleveland – Are they releasing TV shows direct to DVD now? I’ve never heard of this. It looks like Sex in the City mashed up with The Golden Girls.  Which, I guess Sex and the City has become the new Golden Girls.  I mean, did you see the second movie?  Yikes.  Crap, I just told you guys that I saw Sex and the City 2 after revealing earlier in this article that I haven’t seen Social Network or Pirhana 3D.  I totally deserve that swift kick to the crotch you’re imagining giving to me.

It’s a tough decision between “Hot in Cleveland” and “Piranha 3D,” but I’m going with my gut and getting the latter this time ’round. “The Social Network” would be a nice grab too.

  • If producers were really smart they would have put Betty White in a killer fish movie. Hot Piranhas in Cleveland in 3D – now that would be a great blu-ray! I’m with Paxton on the Dances with…zzzzzzzz, oh sorry fell asleep there for a minute. What was I saying?

    • Betty White was in “Lake Placid,” but sans the bikinis and belly shots. Now THAT would have been something to see, hahaha.

  • I can remember someone writing in “Entertainment Weekly” what their fond memory was of “Dances with Wolves”, and that’s the old couple ‘s commentary.

“Oh look, his journal’s floating down the river…bye bye, journal…”

I had a similar experience with “Ghost Rider”, but I’m not going into that.

  • I can’t believe I’m saying this a year or two later, but the best 3-D is still in My Bloody Valentine 3D. That movie used the gimmick and rode it to the hilt. Unfortunately nothing has come out since that I think is nearly as good in terms of 3D live action effects. However I would say that Piranha comes in a close second
